JIMMY Buffett has died at the age of 76, just months after repeated hospitalizations kept him from performing.
The legendary singer leaves an enormous net worth of $1 billion and an impressive legacy.
News of the music icon’s death was announced by his family on social media in an emotional statement.
“Jimmy passed away peacefully on the night of September 1st surrounded by family, friends, music and dogs.
“He lived his life to the last breath like a song and will be missed immeasurably by so many,” the Margaritaville singer’s family wrote in a statement.
He is survived by his wife, Jane Slagsvol, to whom he has been married since 1977, and three children: Savannah, Sarah and Cameron.
Buffett was previously married to a woman named Margie Washichek from 1969 to 1972.
Online tributes to the CMA winner flooded the country after news of his death.
Buffett had been hospitalized on and off in the months leading up to his death.
As reported, he was initially admitted to a hospital in May CNN.
The trip to the hospital forced the postponement of a concert by Jimmy Buffett & the Coral Reefer Band, which was then scheduled to be in Charleston, South Carolina.
He wrote, “Two days ago I had just returned from a trip to the Bahamas while recovering from the ‘Winter Tour’ of California and was dying to come to Charleston.”
“I had to stop in Boston for an exam, but ended up back in the hospital to sort out some issues that needed immediate attention.”
Buffett didn’t reveal what the issues were, nor did he share details about his health condition.
He concluded, “Getting older isn’t for wimps, I promise you.”
“Thank you for your prayers and thoughts, your amazing years of faithfulness, and remember, ‘NOT YET!'”
Months later, in July, he surprised an audience in Portsmouth, Rhode Island, with a performance at Sunset Cove, a waterfront bar.
Before his death, Jimmy was preparing to release a new album album: Songs you can’t memorize.
During his career he released more than 50 albums and wrote countless iconic songs.
He is known for his hit singles “Margaritaville,” “Come Monday,” and “Cheeseburger in Paradise.”
Most of his albums have been certified gold, platinum or multi-platinum.
Buffett has performed on stages around the world and has sold out numerous concert halls.
During his career he has won Country Music Association awards and was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame.
The musician was born in Pascagoula, Mississippi and grew up in Mobile, Alabama.
Before he got into music, he was a fourth-generation sailor.
In 1996 he became a pilot and was licensed to fly seaplanes and amphibious aircraft.
Buffett owned several planes himself, including a Dassault Falcon 900, a Cessna 208 Caravan, a Grumman Albatross, a Grumman Goose, and a Boeing E-75 Stearman.
The singer was declared a billionaire in 2023 forbes.
The outlet mentioned his $180 million stake in Margaritaville, an estimated $570 million in earnings from touring and recording, $140 million in airplanes, homes and shares in Berkshire Hathaway, and a $50 million music catalog.
