Jermain Defoe in talks with League One side Oxford over a free transfer after Rangers contract break

JERMAIN DEFOE is said to be in talks over a free transfer to Oxford United.
The veteran striker, 39, is a free agent after leaving Rangers.
And Telegraph claim Oxford is one of four League One outfit that want to sign Defoe for the rest of the season.
Sunderland, one of the striker’s former clubs, is is said to be leading the race.
And there’s also interest from another Charlton ex, with Ipswich Town also interested.
But Oxford hopes they can break through the queue and disrupt a coup following talks this week.
Defoe has scored 305 goals in 756 club games and is still considered a stalwart shooter.
He found goal 32 times for Rangers in just 74 appearances, winning the Scottish Championship last season.

And despite only playing twice this semester, Defoe revealed ‘the phone is going crazy’ with transfer approaches.
Defoe told TalkSport: “When your phone goes crazy at 39 that’s a good thing. We have several options. Sunderland one, it’s out there.
“It’s just being honest with yourself. I played full pre-season and I remember doing pre-season and I feel good. I didn’t get any jokes, did two sessions.
“I did all the things that I always did. Even when the new manager arrived, I was still practicing and thought I was very sharp.
“I haven’t really played, but I feel very sharp. No disrespect to any of the other players in that league in Scotland, but I just feel as if I’m playing with the best players, having the best players around, playing with defenders. international.
“I feel good and responsive and think ‘what’s the stop now’ when the plan is to get through the season and see what happens.”
