Jenny Slate and Ben Shattuck’s relationship was discovered when the actress revealed they were secretly married on New Year’s Eve

Jenny Slate recently revealed that she got married separately on New Year’s Eve. The 39-year-old revealed she married author and art curator Ben Shattuck in their living room after canceling three wedding days due to the pandemic.

While grinding the shell of Marie Claire for their Creators Issue magazine, the actress said:

“We were planning a wedding that ended up being close to 200 people, and now, just our parents and siblings.”

According to Jenny Slate’s statement, the two invited six friends each and were accompanied by parents and siblings. She added:

“I really like it. I like it more.

The two are said to have met through mutual friends around March 2018 and have not had any further contact for six months. They met again six months later in New York, around September, when they exchanged emails.

In an interview with Glamor, Jenny said:

“I’ve noticed that when I write to him, I’m actually very open-minded.”

The couple made their first public appearance at the Sundance Film Festival in late January 2019 when Slate’s film Sunny night release.

A year after they reconnected via email and started their relationship, Ben Shattuck proposed Big mouth and Parks and Recreation star on their trip to France. The Massachusetts native organized a picnic for Jenny at a castle in France before asking to marry her.

Jenny Slate shared snaps of herself and Ben Shattuck in an Instagram post after they got engaged. The Venom the star revealed that she was “screaming YES”.

The Massachusetts natives now live together in Ben’s childhood home. Shattuck arranges artwork in his mother’s art gallery “Dedee Shattuck Gallery” in Westport, Massachusetts.

In December 2020, Slate appeared on NBC’s Late night with Seth Meyers and announced her pregnancy just a few days before her due date. Two months later, in February, the comedian revealed the name of her daughter, Ida Lupin.

She told ET:

“I can say for sure that it’s the most meaningful thing that has ever happened to me, and I feel really blessed and happy.”
