Jeff Kinney Reveals How Disney Persuaded To Reboot Diary Of A Sneaky Kid

The four live-action “Wimpy Kid” films were distributed by 20th Century Fox. It was at Fox, where it all began — and who Jeff Kinney had to convince before Disney. “We started this project while shooting live action movies,” says Kinney. “I talked to Fox Animation. We wanted to do a special show for Christmas, and we love working together so much that we always try. And I’m really, really happy when they do. I landed.”
In the midst of that plan, Disney acquired Fox. Several projects have been delayed or restructured due to mergers, and this is causing some concern. “You’re always worried about that — someone supported your work and now they’re gone, and that can happen a lot,” explains Kinney. Luckily, that didn’t happen, and he’s relieved that Disney kept the project alive: “So I feel really, really pleased that they’re putting A-level talent behind ‘Wimpy’ Kid’, they made it a priority and started from there. The beginning. That was really great.”
“Diary of a Wimpy Kid” is currently streaming on Disney+.
