Mateta, who scored the winning goal in the FA Cup win over Millwall, is on loan from Mainz and looks unlikely to be fit for the Eagles to trigger a transfer.

Mateta has only appeared in five Premier League games for Palace but scored his first goal for the club against Norwich shortly after Christmas.

He then headed home against Millwall in the 58th minute of Saturday’s cup game.

Michael Olise picked Mateta with a precise cross and the Frenchman headed home the net.

The 24-year-old striker has represented France at youth level and scored 27 goals in 71 appearances for parent club Mainz.

Palace are also open to loaning Scotland midfielder Scott Banks, 20, with League Two Bradford set to take him away once he recovers from injury.

And the South London club lost Wilfried Zaha, Jordaw Ayew and Cheikyou Kouyate to the Africa Cup of Nations.

But coach Patrick Viera has praised Aaron Ramsey, who is leaving Juventus in the transfer window and could return to Blighty.

Viera praised the former Arsenal midfielder: “When you look at Ramsey’s pedigree and experience, I think he will improve a lot of teams in the Premier League.

“I like the players, like a lot of players. He is an excellent player and I think he can do well for teams in the Premier League. “
