ODESSA, Texas (Nexstar) – Friends and family are mourning the loss of a teenager who was killed in Odessa over the weekend.

Jaziah Marruffo, 19, died early Saturday morning after he was shot.

His friends call him “Jay” or “J-money” and say he has an outgoing personality and a sense of humor that is not to be missed.

Odessa police received a call from the Medical Center Hospital on Saturday morning, where Marrufo died.

Police have since charged a sixteen-year-old boy with murder and another teenager with stealing a handgun. Both suspects have also been charged with tampering with evidence and taken to the Ector County Youth Center.

Jaziah’s friends say they will remember him as an avid music lover – that he would dance to whatever was playing. His loved ones have lost someone they say made regular activities enjoyable.

“It was never a bad time for him. You always have a good time no matter what you’re doing even if it’s the simplest thing about sitting in the park,” said Deanna Payne, Jaziah’s friend.

A former colleague described Jaziah as shy at first, but when he opened his mouth, it sounded like fireworks going off. He is described as the brightest, full of life and sweetest soul.

Jaziah also has a kind heart and sympathizes when her friends are going through difficult times.

“There are days when I’m going through my personal stuff and I guess the way I text him he can tell I’m upset,” Payne said.

“He would Facetime with me and make sure I was fine.”

If you want to help Jaziah’s family with funeral expenses, you can donate to them GoFundMe . Page.
