Jamie Carragher says Erling Haaland ‘picked the wrong club’ as he slams Man City and reveals their biggest weakness

JAMIE CARRAGHER has suggested Erling Haaland may have signed for the WRONG club.

The superstar joined Manchester City for £51million last summer and has enjoyed a successful first season on goal.

Haaland has already scored 25 goals in the Premier League, with a further six in other competitions, making him the deadliest shooter in Europe.

He made a remarkable hit FOUR hat-tricks and is on course to break Mohamed Salah’s record of 32 in a 38-game season.

But Haaland has been criticized for his all-around game, with some saying he may have made Manchester City worse.

Pep Guardiola’s side are five points behind leaders Arsenal in the title race after failing to close the gap after a 1-0 defeat at Tottenham.

Haaland struggled and even failed to register a single shot on goal in north London.

His performance was the talk of the town once again and Carragher even made the bold claim that maybe he shouldn’t have gone to City.

Speaking to Sky Sports, the ex-Liverpool defender said: “He may have actually picked the wrong club to get the best out of him.

“Manchester City have scored the same number of goals as a team.

“He’s scored 25 goals in the Premier League but Manchester City as a team have scored the same number of goals and they’ve conceded more goals and it’s a lot easier to counter them too.

“So they’re a different team and a smaller team with Erling Haaland on the team and it’s not his fault.

“Manchester City are not going to play end-to-end football as a team, that’s not Pep Guardiola’s way.

“Erling Haaland has still scored 25 goals but we don’t see the full package of what this player can do because of the team he went to.

“I’m not criticizing him and I think he’s so good that he still has 25 goals but we’ve probably only seen 60 or 70 percent of him.

“We don’t see that power and that breathtaking pace, but we have to come back to the fact that no matter how many goals he’s scored as a solo player, Manchester City have scored exactly the same number of goals.”
