The Sky Sports pundit, 44, has faced backlash from fans for comments he made regarding Chelsea’s Academy trophy success.

On the club’s youth league record: “It’s not that Chelsea win the youth cup every year or reach the final, it’s not because they have the best coaches or the best coaches or the best academy.

“Because they went and took the best players from every club in the country and moved families and gave the father a job as a scout.”

However, some Blues fans took to social media to disagree with Carragher’s views on their academy.

An account named @Chels_HQ tweeted: “Don’t disagree with your views on Kenyans, Gerrard, Cole, but reverently, the Academy part was wrong.”

Responding via his Twitter account, the Anfield hero wrote: “Sorry, I got a little emotional.”

Carragher, was speaking during a discussion regarding the sale of Chelsea and the government freezing the assets of Blues owner Roman Abramovich.

The pundit revealed that he had a “hot discussion” with Chelsea fans outside Stamford Bridge following the club’s loss to Newcastle.

Carragher has faced criticism from supporters who say Manchester United should try to sign Thomas Tuchel following the challenges the club have faced.

The former England midfielder believes Chelsea have ‘spent money’ to get the person they want over the years.

On Sky Sports Monday Night Football, in response to criticism, Carragher said: “Chelsea have been doing it for 20 years. We can splurge and get the person we want.

“We will go to Manchester United and meet Peter Kenyon (their chief executive).

“We will go to Liverpool and try to take the best midfielder in Europe (Steven Gerrard) and destabilize that club for two summers.

“We will have Ashley Cole, undefeated, won everything at Arsenal, we will go and get him. We’ll get caught mining, it doesn’t matter, we’ll pay the fine. ”
