James Harden and his teammates blast the NBA for ‘disrespect’ and say the league has ‘explanation to do’ after shock decision
JAMES Harden’s streak of back-to-back NBA All-Star appearances has come to an end and he’s far from pleased.
The league announced its reserve lineup on Friday and the 33-year-old apparently missed the cut.
In response to the news, Harden posted a post on his Instagram story with a blank screen that simply read, “The disrespect.”
A ten-time All-Star, Harden was back at his best in 2022, in his first season with the Philadelphia 76ers.
He has averaged 21.4 points, 6.4 rebounds, 11.0 assists and four triple-doubles in 34 games this season.
In fact, had he played just one more game, his assists average would be considered the best in the NBA — hitting the 70 percent minimum to qualify for league leaderboards, according to ESPN.
Closest to his assists average are Tyrese Haliburton (10.3) and Nikola Jokic (10.1), who were named All-Star Reserves and starters, respectively.
And given those stats and Harden’s overall performances this year, his teammates were equally frustrated by Friday’s news.
In response to who was the “biggest nudge in the East,” teammate Georges Niang tweeted: “JAMES HARDEN @JHarden13 wow.”
Teammate Tobias Harris too with the name Hardenwhile Joel Embiid, who made it onto the reserve list, tweeted: “You all have something to explain to make @NBA.”
Even 76ers head coach Doc Rivers chimed in, telling The Philadelphia Inquirer, “I didn’t even think it was going to be a question [that Harden would be selected].
“And lest he be on the All-Star team when we were second seed at the time of voting — Boston has two, Milwaukee has two, we have one.
“I think your record should matter, I think James Harden’s numbers should matter, and I think a history of his work should matter.
“Maybe that’s something we should consider making the voices of the coaches public.”
Rivers concluded by saying, “This should never have happened.”
