Netflix Life: I love this It movies so I was excited to see you doing another Stephen King project. Are you a fan of his work?

Jaeden Martell: Yes of course. Big fan.

Netflix Life: In this film you are alone a lot or act in front of a phone. Did you find that challenging?

Jaeden Martell: It’s a bit challenging I would say. There’s a lot that goes into making it look realistic and most of the time I was on the phone with John Lee, who usually played the role of Harrigan or my father, which was interesting. Luckily I had the incredible John Lee Hancock to guide me. He was my partner in many ways when I needed to be alone. He made it a lot easier for me.

Netflix Life: Did This Movie Change the Way You Interact with Your Phone, Or Not Really?

Jaeden Martell: Not really. [Laughs] There’s not much you can do. I’ve always tried to be conscious of how much time I spend on my phone and how much value I give it, especially on social media. So nothing has really changed, to be honest.

Netflix Life: You had to play alongside Donald Sutherland, that must have been exciting.

Jaeden Martell: Yes, very exciting, very nerve wracking at the beginning, actually throughout the whole thing it was nerve wracking for me just because I adore him. I analyzed him as an actor but he was very, very nice and very funny and just a very special person. In the end he gave me a lot of advice that I will remember for the rest of my life.

Netflix Life: Your scenes together were great, you had magnetic chemistry on screen. It was fun seeing the two of you interact.

Jaeden Martell: Thanks, yes obviously it was all written, but somehow, by someone’s design, it was our relationship in real life [ended up being]. I started to look up to him a lot and still do. Eventually we got closer and joked around a lot.

Netflix Life: Do you have him in your phone in real life as “Pirate King”?

Jaeden Martell: [Laughs] What do I have it as? That’s actually a good idea. I think he’s just Donald.

Mr. Harrigan’s phone Premieres this Wednesday, October 5 on Netflix.
