CHRIS EUBANK JR has revealed he is only training for eight rounds in preparation for his fight with Liam Smith.
The two British middleweights will face off in a 12-round contest on January 21st at Manchester’s AO Arena.
It will be almost a year since Eubank Jr., 33, last fought until he steps into the ring next month.
His previous fight was a unanimous decision win over Liam Williams before his October clash with Conor Benn was canceled after The Destroyer failed a drug test.
But despite a period of inactivity, Eubank Jr. believes former world champion Smith, 34, will be easy work.
Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: “I’ll be sparring eight rounds today and another eight rounds next week and every week until the fight comes. So everything is on track.
“I don’t think it will be too much of a challenge for me, so I don’t think I need to save more than eight laps. That’s how long the fight will probably last.
“People a little more dangerous than Liam, I would probably train 12 rounds but I think eight is more than enough for Liam Smith.
“I’m not being disrespectful, I’m just very confident.”
Unlike Smith, Eubank Jr. was never a recognized world champion, losing to George Groves in his only title challenge nearly five years ago.

Previously, he also failed against Billy Joe Saunders in boxing for the British title in 2014.
But he hasn’t been beaten in any of his last six fights since Groves lost – although inactivity has brought his career to a halt.
His best wins came against Olympic gold medalist James DeGale and Welsh slugger Williams.
Eubank has a record of 32 wins and two losses.
Smith now has 32 wins, three losses and one draw to his credit.
He became world champion back in 2015 but has since lost to Canelo Alvarez, Jaime Munguia and most recently Magomed Kurbanov last year.
