‘It’s a big risk’ – Arsenal’s Nigel Winterburn does not replace Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, says the club have no choice but to ‘go through’

Before Arsenal Defender Nigel Winterburn believes in selling Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and failing to replace him could be a hindrance in the future.

After Aubameyang’s departure came Barcelona, the Gunners find themselves short of strikers. When things settle, Mikel Arteta will be forced to rely on young Alexandre Lacazette and Gabriel Martinelli up front. Speaking on the Gunners’ standout scenario after the sale of Gabonese striker Winterburn speak:

“Arsenal have left themselves short in the highlights department. It would be a huge risk to sell Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang without replacing him. But equally, Arsenal have let him go in the past few weeks. They’re not in a different position now than five weeks ago. They need to move on and see where the club ends.”

He added:

“People can discuss and debate whether it is right or wrong, but they need to move on. The discussion about letting Pierre walk will resume if the team fails to score or if they finish outside of the top four.

Mikel Arteta’s side have struggled to find the back of the net in their recent matches. The Gunners failed to find the net in both legs against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup semi-final. They also failed to score against Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup leaving them out in the third round.

The Gunners also drew 0-0 against Burnley in their last visit in the Premier League.

Nigel Winterburn said of Aubameyang: “Arteta decided ‘enough, you’re the captain and I’m trying to lead a youth team and that’s unacceptable’. It was a strong stance, they felt the action. The best move is for Aubameyang to leave. Perhaps the Amazon documentary will reveal more.”

Currently, youngster Emile Smith Rowe is Arsenal’s top scorer this season. The 21-year-old striker has scored nine goals in 23 appearances in all competitions.

Mikel Arteta’s side are heavily linked with the signing of Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic. However, the 22-year-old striker decided to join Juventus in the January transfer window instead.

Arsenal face a rigorous test against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League

Arsenal’s attack will be tested when they travel to the Midlands to host Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League on Thursday night. Wolves have had one of the tightest defences in the league so far this season. Coach Bruno Lage’s team has only conceded 16 goals in 21 Premier League games this season.

As things are going, Mikel Arteta’s side are sixth in the Premier League table, with 36 points from 21 games. They are currently 4 points behind West Ham United, 4 points with 3 remaining matches on the field of The Hammers. ‘It’s a big risk’ – Arsenal’s Nigel Winterburn does not replace Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, says the club have no choice but to ‘go through’
