HOW Putin is forcing 40,000 Ukrainians into slave labor in run-down parts of Russia, our utterly useless Home Office continues to shackle those hoping to flee to Britain in a swathe of bureaucracy.
At the same time, it spends tens of millions on hotel rooms and Dominos pizzas for up to 1,000 migrants crossing the English Channel a day.
As hard-pressed taxpayers, we get the worst of both worlds.
Our officials are not helping to solve Ukraine’s moral crisis or to secure our borders.
What’s the matter?
It’s been our worst-performing government department for years.
There is no greater problem that cannot be made worse by working from home mandarins.
Priti Patel seems increasingly held hostage to the utter incompetence of her own officials.
She either has good ideas that are being thwarted from within, or she’s running out of them.
This madness can’t go on.
It might be time to completely dismantle our failing Home Office and start over.

Prince William and Kate are used to criticism.
But the negative publicity from their Caribbean tour clearly hurt.
Assistants to the pair insist they only agreed to stand atop a Land Rover Defender at the behest of a Jamaican general – the images of which have sparked claims of colonialism.
Other outdated events appear to have been worked out by palace officials who appeared to have foreseen no problems.
From now on they will insist on doing things differently – the Cambridge Way.
William – a reformer and modernist – was clearly hurt by proposals that he and Kate deeply lost.
He’s rightly wanting a slimmed-down PR operation when he’s Prince of Wales.
The fact that his father currently employs 137 people is obviously unnecessary.
What the “Cambridge Way” ultimately means for the monarchy remains to be seen.
And there are questions about how helpful it is now to suggest that William may not lead the Commonwealth if he is king?
However, one thing is certain.
Royal tours will never be the same again.
WHAT kind of stupid Premier League star sees the shock and outrage at Kurt Zouma kicking a cat and thinks it’s a good idea to take part in a tug-of-war with an abused tiger?
It turns out the answer is Chelsea’s Ben Chilwell.
Zouma has already suffered a barrage of abuse from the terraces.
Now Chilwell is also in danger of being thrown to the lions.
