ISIS today named its new leader after confirming the death of the terrorist group’s former boss in an audio tape.
Leader of the jihadist group Abu Ibrahim al-Qurashi blow away himself and his family last month in a bloody raid by US special forces.
The US president called it “the last act of desperate cowardice” and said the terrorist blew up “that third floor instead of facing justice for the crimes he committed, while bringing some members of his family.
“This terrible terrorist leader is no more.”
And now ISIS has confirmed al-Qurashi’s death and named his successor Abu al-Hassan al-Hashimi al-Qurayshi, in an audio announcement released today.
The group’s spokesman, Abu Omar al-Muhajer, said the late ISIS leader had chosen him as the next god.
Thirteen people are believed to have been killed, including six children and four women, in the daring raid involving 24 elite Special Forces backed by fighter jets and helicopters.
“At the start of the operation, the terrorist target detonated a bomb that killed him and his family members, including women and children,” a senior administration official told Reuters. Reuters at the time.
Residents described repeated shootings and explosions that rocked Atmeh near the Turkish border, an area dotted with camps for internally displaced people in Syrias after the civil war.
Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qurashi is terrorist group leader since 2019, after taking over from Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.
Baghdadi was killed when US forces stormed his compound in northwest Syria and he blew himself up with a suicide vest after being cornered in a tunnel.
Al-Qurashi, also known as Amir Muhammad Sa’id Abdal-Rahman al-Mawla, among other alias, is a senior terrorist leader in the predecessor organization of ISIS, Al Qaeda in Iraq, and both regularly level up to become the deputy leader, follow up Reward for justice.
He is the leader of a campaign to kidnap, rape and massacre thousands of Yazidis in northwestern Iraq and has been on the US State Department’s most wanted list since March 2020.
