Is Liz Cheney Republican or Democrat?

Political heavyweight Liz Cheney has been a prominent part of the political news because of her stance on the January 6 riot.

She has been vocal in speaking out against her own Republican party and has slammed those who supported former President Donald Trump, who continued to claim the election was stolen.

Cheney was first elected to Congress in Wyoming as a member of the Republican Party in 2016, but in May 2021 House Republicans voted to unseat Cheney after she publicly and repeatedly condemned Trump’s efforts to stop the peaceful transfer of power.

Though Cheney was voted out, she has redirected her efforts as vice chair of the committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack to hold Trump accountable.

The daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney, she worked to spread democracy to other countries, following in her father’s footsteps.

Former Virginia Rep. Barbara Comstock told NPR, “[Cheney]certainly saw her father and mother … attacked many times for doing what she sure felt was the right thing to do, and I think.” , that makes it kind of easy.”

What happened at the hearing on January 6th?

In January 2021, Cheney was one of 10 Republicans joining 222 Democrats to vote to impeach former President Donald Trump for inciting the January 6 Capitol riots.

Cheney has formed a bipartisan panel consisting of two Republicans, including herself, and seven Democrats who will hear testimony about Trump’s role in the riots.

In an appeal to Republicans, Cheney spoke at the hearing and asked her peers to defend the Constitution.

“I say this to my fellow Republicans who defend the untenable,” Cheney said. “The day will come when Donald Trump will be gone, but your shame will remain.”

The comment supports Cheney’s Face the Nation interview when she said, “I think the country needs a strong Republican Party, but our party has to make a choice.

“We can be loyal to either Donald Trump or the Constitution, but we cannot be both.”

In a series of comments, Cheney presented evidence of a seven-step plan by Trump to hold on to the presidency, including spreading fraudulent information, pressuring election officials and state lawmakers to change election results, and ignoring pleas from Officials to stop the violence on the Capitol steps.

At the hearing, Cheney said Trump showed support for the rioters, who chanted “Hang Mike Pence!”

“The President, aware of the rioters’ calls to ‘hang Mike Pence’, responded with this feeling: ‘Maybe our supporters have the right idea. Mike Pence ‘deserves it,'” Cheney said.

Trump took to his Truth Social platform to argue against Cheney’s statements.

“I NEVER said or thought of saying ‘hang Mike Pence,'” he wrote.

“This is either a made up story by someone who wants to be a star or FAKE NEWS!”

However, Cheney received support from both Democrats and Republicans during her opening remarks at the hearing.

Longtime conservative commentator Bill Kristol wrote on Twitter: “I think Liz Cheney’s presentation will go down in history: Congress at its best, truth-telling at its best, American democracy at its best.”

Is Liz Cheney fighting for re-election?

After months of uncertainty about Liz Cheney’s candidacy for re-election, she announced she would be running just days before the deadline.

The outspoken candidate has an upward battle ahead as she falls behind her main GOP opponent Harriet Hageman, who leads by 28 points according to a Hageman-backed super PAC.

Hageman has gained favor in the polls after being endorsed by Trump, who spoke for Hageman at a rally in May 2022.

“There is no RINO [Republican In Name Only] in America who is more committed to the radical left than Liz Cheney,” he told his supporters.

However, Cheney says she refuses to back down, and in a video announcing she was running for a second term, she said, “If I know something’s wrong, I’ll say it.”

“I will not falter or back down. I will not submit to pressure or intimidation.”
