Is Hero Ferelden At Dragon Age 4?

Mike Laidlaw, chief designer and director for the first three “Dragon Age” games, has repeatedly stated that Ferelden’s Heroes will not appear in “Dragon Age 4”. “HoF will not appear in future ‘DA’ products,” Laidlaw wrote on Twitter in 2017. He extended this the next day in a reddit theme, detailing numerous reasons why including Warden in another entry in the series would prove problematic.
“I think it’s important to note that ‘Origins’ is about sacrifice. It’s a story where literally people give up something to prevent something terrible. That choice was the HoF giving up their lives to prevent that terrible thing, and to be honest, a lot of people took it,” explains Laidlaw. “Now, let’s fast-forward to a theoretical moment in which HoF plays an important role in a future game. Suddenly your sacrifice seems like it was the wrong choice, no Well, that’s not it. It’s a perfect ending to the core themes of ‘Origins.’ “
In addition to contradicting BioWare’s vision of “Origins”, the fact that Warden is deeply customizable with “hundreds of options to count” all but guarantees that a “canon” version of the character will do the trick. frustrated hundreds, if not thousands, of players who have stuck with and envisioned their main character specifically. “I firmly believe it won’t live up to expectations unless we pour a lot of resources into it which will spoil the rest of a game’s potential,” Laidlaw concludes.
While these statements may seem dry, it is important to note that Laidlaw left BioWare a few months after making the above statements (via Twitter). Several other franchise veterans have left, leaving “Dragon Age 4” in the hands of a mostly different group of people. The rest of the developers (or publishers Electronic Arts) may decide to bring back the Ferelden Hero despite Laidlaw’s views on the matter.
