Who is Don Lemon?
Don Lemon has been a successful presenter at CNN since 2006, but before that he worked for numerous news outlets and wrote several best-selling books.
Throughout his career, Lemon has covered the death of Osama Bin Laden, the Colorado Theater and Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings, the Boston Marathon bombing, the trial of George Zimmerman, and countless other breaking stories.
He also hosted CNN’s coverage of the Japan earthquake and tsunami and reported for the media outlet’s documentary Race and Rage: The Beating of Rodney King.
However, his staff and viewers were most surprised when, during a CNN interview with young members of an Atlanta church whose pastor was accused of sexually assaulting some young men, Lemon was surprised.

Members told Lemon they didn’t believe the pastor, Bishop Eddie Long of the New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, was guilty because he didn’t appear to be an abuser or molester.
Lemon countered that abusers come in all shapes and sizes, and in an interview with NPR in 2011, Lemon said, “And I said the reason I know that is because I had an abuser as a kid.”
He told the outlet that everyone on set was completely silent, adding, “For someone who’s a host to say that on TV … I didn’t see the implications.”
His best-selling book, Transparent, delved into his past and revealed that he had been sexually assaulted by his mother’s boyfriend’s son.
He also used the book to announce that he is gay and said in the interview that May 16, 2011, the day the book came out, was the first day of his life.
“I want to go on trips. I want to do things with my boyfriend. I used to just isolate myself and work all the time. Now the job is … it’s not that important,” he said at the time.
He continued, “My relationships are more important. I’m better connected. i am happier Whatever happens to my career, I will definitely be successful.”
Lemon published two more books after Transparent. Released in 2019, The Hundred revealed what it was like for Lemon hitting bottom after the 2016 presidential election.
Lemon released This Is the Fire: What I Say to My Friends About Racism in 2021 and became an instant bestseller just a week after its release.
“I want to thank everyone who inspired me to write this book,” Lemon said in a video Posted on Twitter after his book topped the New York Times Best Seller list.
“All the people who bought it, all the support, and most importantly, the people who made the conversations I’m talking about in this book. It’s very, very important.”
A spokesman for publisher Little, Brown and Company told The Wrap, “As America’s only black prime-time anchor, Lemon and his daily monologues about racism and anti-racism, about the failures of the Trump administration and so many of our leaders, and about America’s systemic vulnerabilities speak for themselves his millions of fans.
“Now he shows us all how deep our problems lie and what we can do to solve them in a powerful, deeply personal, compelling plea.”
