The show’s premise is based on a 2018 posts from New York Magazine under the title Maybe She Had So Much Money She only lost track of it by Jessica Pressler, who is the show’s writer and producer.
The story is based on Anna “Delvey” Sorokina real woman posing as a German heiress to scam the elite.
She is accused steal thousands of dollars from various social networking sites, hotels and banks.
In 2019, Delvey is guilty on one major theft attempt count, three major theft count and four service theft count.
She was paroled in February 2021, but the German citizen was arrested by ICE six weeks later for overstaying her visa.

On the show, Delvey dates a prolific app developer named Chase Sikorski.
The character appears to be based on Delvey’s real-life boyfriend, as detailed in the Pressler article.
Pressler never identified the boyfriend, and the name Chase Sikorski was apparently coined for the show, but some details of the article about him were used on the show.
In her story, Pressler describes Delvey’s boyfriend as a “TED-Talks futurist who was featured in The New Yorker.”

And Chase is raising money from investors for the dream app he’s creating called Wake.
These details from the show are similar to what Pressler wrote in her 2018 story:

The Wake app appears to be fictitious and it’s unclear what kind of apps Delvey’s real-life boyfriend was working on.
In programmeIn the end, Chase came to Emirates without actually producing the app.
The detail is also based on the fact, according to Pressler, who said Anna’s boyfriend “whose app never came to fruition” moved to Emirates in 2016.
In the Netflix series, Chase is portrayed as a con man, although Pressler never confirms it in her article.
