Cleveland Browns midfielder Baker Mayfield has been playing after injury since Week 2 of this season. Mayfield suffered a tear in his left lip in his left shoulder, causing him pain with every play.

Mayfield has had some lousy hits this season but has beaten his worst first New England Patriots. Mayfield was wounded by Matt Judon’s blow.

Mayfield left the match in considerable pain while clutching the right flank. Mayfield was initially ruled in question but did not return.

Baker Mayfield left the game and was initially thought to be in question because of a knee injury. At the time of the injury, the Browns were down 31-7. The Patriots would score two more touchdowns later and win the game 45-7.

Bill Belichick walked out the gate with a good game plan to limit the Browns from committing silly and deceiving. Mayfield played weakly and ineffectively before getting injured. He completed 11 passes in just 73 yards. He flips the ball as well as an ugly interception.

Despite missing the second half of the game, Mayfield’s scan came back negative after the game. He told the media that he plans to compete next week and there was no structural damage.

Keenum came on for Mayfield in the second half of the match. Keenum played well in the final match that led to a win. However, he did not play any better than Mayfield against the crowded Patriots defence.

The Patriots held the Browns for a short 217 yards. Keenum was efficient, completing 66% of his passes, but the Patriots’ defense didn’t allow Keenum to stay behind many clubs.

Baker Mayfield’s shoulder injury will continue to worsen

The Browns are lucky that Mayfield will be able to play next week. But at this point of the season, it’s fair to question how many more big shots Baker Mayfield can make.

There’s no way around the fact that Baker Mayfield’s injury will haunt him for the rest of the season. Mayfield reinvigorated his shoulder in Week 6 against the Arizona Cardinals and missed the following week.

The Browns feel capable with Keenum behind center. But they are grateful Mayfield is fine and can play next week. Mayfield will be under pressure to return next week after being floundered against the Patriots. The AFC North playoff race is as tight as ever, so every result matters.
