IRS stimulus checker – how to track your payments

A THIRD stimulus check should have reached many American bank accounts by mid-April.
The IRS processed four million payment stimulus at the end of March, and about 127 million people received their checks for $1,400. However, if you’re still waiting for payment, here’s how:
What is the first step to take?
First, you need to log in to the Internal Revenue Service Get the My Payments tool.
You’ll be able to see when the IRS sends you the check, how much it’s due, how it will be paid if there are delays, and more.
To use it, you will need a Social Security Number (SSN) or an Individual Tax Identification Number (ITIN).
If you forgot your SSN or need a new card, see how you can get a replacement on the official card SSN . website.
You will also need to enter your date of birth and address.
Once you’ve entered your information, you’ll receive one of two notifications:
- If you receive a “Status of Payment” message, this means your check has been processed and will include information such as the payment date and how your check was issued.
- If you receive a “Payment Status Unavailable” message, this means you are not eligible to receive payment or the IRS was unable to issue payment.
If you’ve been told that your payment status isn’t available, here’s what to do next.
What if my payment status is not available?
If you receive this message, it’s best to make a request for a Recovery Refund Credit.
You will also need to file a 2020 tax return, even if you are not required to do so.
The Recovery Reimbursement Credit calculates your eligibility and stimulus check amount based on information from this tax return.
You will need to fill out the Recovery Refund Credit Worksheet in these forms on the IRS’ website, this will help check if you are eligible for payment.
The IRS has more information on how to file an electronic tax return on its website.
I got another message on the IRS tracker?
If you get a “More Information Needed” message on the Get My Payments tracker, the IRS says it didn’t receive enough information to send your payment electronically.
But if you haven’t received your stimulus check in the mail, then again, you’ll need to claim a Cash Back Credit.
If you get a “Please try again later” message, your account has been locked for 24 hours.
This may have happened because the information you entered didn’t match IRS records, or you tried to visit the website more than five times in 24 hours.
I said my stimulus check was sent but I didn’t receive it?
If the IRS online tool says it sent you a stimulus check, but you didn’t receive it, you’ll need to request payment tracking.
You can call the IRS at 800-919-9835 or send a Model 3911 in the mail to initiate payment tracking.
