The iOS 17 update is free to download on your iPhone and Reactions is available immediately – it was released publicly on September 18th.

“FaceTime calls are also becoming more expressive with reactions,” Apple said in a press release.

IPhone users with iOS 17 downloaded have the ability to send animations like hearts, balloons, fireworks, laser beams, rain and more while using FaceTime.

The animations appear on the screen during the FaceTime call and are visible to both parties.

Reactions in FaceTime are similar to the Send with Impact feature available in text messages.

The Send with Effect feature allows iPhone users to add either popping, loud, soft or invisible ink to a text, causing the text to give off an animation when the recipient opens it.

The most commonly used text “send with effects” is sending confetti or hearts with a message.

MORE FACETIME UPDATES

The iOS 17 update includes several more updates for FaceTime, according to Apple’s release.

FaceTime now supports audio and video messaging.

You can leave a FaceTime video or audio message as a type of voicemail when someone is not available to take your call.

Facetime will also be available on a large screen via Apple TV 4K with iOS 17.
