Interceptor sequel already written, says director Matthew Reilly

You may have noticed that the action adventure film stars Elsa Pataky interceptor has sat quite a bit in the Netflix Top 10 since its initial release on June 3, 2022. Right now the movie is at No. 1. 5, but it stayed at No. 1 for a while and has over 50 million hours watched. Does that mean we’ll see interceptor Consequence?

Acclaimed writer Matthew Reilly directed the film, which is based on a screenplay he co-wrote with Stuart Beattie. It follows US Army Captain JJ Collins (Pataky), who is remanded to a remote nuclear missile intercept base in the Pacific Ocean after being blacklisted for speaking out against sexual harassment.

In the fast-paced military film, JJ must repel a deadly nuclear attack by domestic terrorists led by Luke Bracey’s Alexander Kessel. Pataky spoke to Netflix Life about her reasons for taking on the role and her desire to show her kids that she’s just as capable of kicking butt as her actor husband Chris Hemsworth.

And while interceptor completes its storylines, the ending leaves room for a possible sequel. Apparently, Reilly felt the same way when he recently told Variety that he’s already planning and writing a second film.

Will there be an Interceptor sequel?

The online reaction to the film was pretty brutal. Reilly admits he knows what his movie is, cheesy one-liners and all. But he doesn’t care about the hate, especially since Netflix likes the film. He also told the outlet that he’s already written a sequel! While it’s not confirmed that we’ll be getting a sequel, it looks like the possibility for more is certainly there.

Reilly’s novels are written to be highly exaggerated and fast-paced. He claims it takes a substantial budget to make them, anything interceptor had not. Reilly wasn’t allowed to disclose the Netflix budget to Variety, but we know the film was designed for a cheaper, smaller budget, as you’ll notice the film is mostly set in a single location.

However, the director also promised if Netflix would let him make one interceptor Continue, then he will do his T2 or street fighteralso known as the two highly acclaimed terminator and crazy max sequels.

Would Chris Hemsworth return for the Interceptor sequel?

When asked if Hemsworth would be returning for the sequel (since he had a cameo in the first film), Reilly said the first film was likely a “one-and-done” for the Marvel star, but the sequel was also significantly larger.

“I don’t want to speak for him, but I think ‘Interceptor’ was a one-and-done. But let’s just say the sequel is about 10 times bigger. If he wants to be there, I’m pretty sure we can accommodate him somewhere.”
