INSTAGRAM just rolled out a bunch of new DM features aimed at streamlining the messaging experience.
On Thursday, the social media company unveiled over half a dozen new messaging features, according to a new press release.
Some of the new tools include the ability to share music previews and silently send a message.
“This announcement is part of our ongoing work to improve how you connect and share with your closest friends,” Instagram said in its statement.
The photo-sharing app’s move is part of a 2021 campaign that promised to introduce more messaging tools.
Here are some of the new features explained in detail.
Respond while you browse
You can now reply to direct messages while scrolling your feed.
This allows Instagrammers to stay in place while browsing, and “makes it so much easier and more convenient to chat on the app,” the company said.
See who’s online
With this new feature, you can see who is “active” in chat at the top of your inbox.
The social media company explained that this tool will help users “find random opportunities to connect with friends.”
Play, pause and play again
Sharing music on Instagram just got easier with this new feature that lets you send your friends a 30-second snippet of a song.
The tool will also soon be integrated with Apple Music, Amazon Music and Spotify, Instagram said.
Send messages silently
If you want to message at night but don’t want to wake up your friends, you can now DM silently by adding “@silent” to your message.
This will send the text to your friends but won’t notify them out loud.
Create a poll with your friends
Another new feature is “Polls,” which allow you to gauge your friends’ preferences in group chat.
