The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival has been around since 1999 and has seen many shocking controversies over the years.
The first event in October 1999 was a two-day event, and while there was no festival in 2000, it returned in 2001 and has grown steadily over the years.
It’s now a massive event, held over three consecutive weekends in April, with the same lineup every weekend covering many musical tastes.
Not only has it provided for one in the music world it has seen some outrageous acts – here are some of the most controversial.
JUSTIN BIEBER OWNERSHIP
Justin Bieber According to TMZ, Drake found himself in hot water on Drake’s scene in 2015 when he allegedly attempted to enter an area that was operating at full capacity, according to TMZ.
He is said to have refused to leave, saying he was invited by Drake.

A security guard then allegedly grabbed him and took him to a secret place, although a rep for Bieber said he left of his own accord.
Bieber is also said to have “caused a big scene and thrown a pain,” according to E! News when his friend Kendall Jenner was not allowed to join a party because she was underage.
MADONNA KISSES DRAKE
During a performance, also in 2015, Madonna put Drake on the chair and continue to work with him intensely.
Fans seemed to assume that Drake was disgusted with the kiss shortly after, but the rapper soon cleared things up with an Instagram post.
“Don’t misunderstand my shock!! I have to talk to the queen Madonna and I feel [100 emoji] about it forever. Thank you @madonna. ”
RAPPER’S ‘F**K YOU’ TO KENDALL JENNER
Rapper Tyler the Creator had a beef meal on his scene in 1015 with a special VIP section that included Jenner in the audience.
“You all, you guys are boring,” he told the special, adding, “However, everyone in the crowd is really, I f**k with you guys. You guys will. have a good time.”
He then focused special attention on Jenner, saying, “Kendall Jenner here thinks she’s cute and cool. Hey, Kendall, I’m here on your right – f**k you.”
Jenner responded by brushing him off.
She then cooled down the situation by sharing a video of the incident on Twitter, captioning it “love” along with a half-joking emoji.
TUPAC HOLOGRAM
One of the strangest attractions in festival history came in 2012 when Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg give a hologram of Tupac Shakur for a version of the Hail Mary and 2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted.
The crowd “didn’t know what to do with the hologram,” Billboard reported, and especially when the hologram chanted “What the hell is going on, Coachella!” consider Tupac dead in 1996, before the festival even started.
JAKE PAUL RAPS N-WORD
A video from the 2017 festival has been unearthed of YouTube sensation Jake Paul rolling before Rae Sremmurd’s Sum Mo throw.
The offensive word can be heard twice in the video
It caused the inevitable backlash.
One person tweeted, “Jake Paul is at it again. My friend actually uses the word n. I swear to god if any creator with white privilege comes to black with some don’t take offense or it slips by accident. I quit like it was done. Hi. ”
RIHANNA HAS MADE THE BREAD
Rihanna allegedly snorted cocaine at Coachella in 2015 after a video of Vine emerged.
The Barbadian singer, now 33, quickly quelled the whispers by replying in the comments section.
She wrote: “N—your lame ass has a bit of nerve!!! Any fool can see it’s a joint I’m leaning on a cigarette! Who smokes ??!! someone squeezing their nose means they’re making coke ‘lookin a–!!”
PULL BEYONCE OUT
Super star Beyoncé Giselle Knowles-Carter disappointed fans when the singer announced her withdrawal from the list of aggressive ads in 2017.
It was prescribed by the doctor because she was pregnant at the time.
“Following the advice of doctors to keep a less rigorous schedule in the coming months, Beyonce has made the decision to give up performing at the 2017 Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival,” a statement from festival organizers Golden Voice and Beyonce’s Parkwood Entertainment said.
However, the singer appeared the following year.
