Inside Ron DeSantis’ Law and Order tour as he fuels speculation about the 2024 White House bid at the first stop in Staten Island

REPUBLICAN Florida Governor Ron DeSantis visited New York City to tour the city’s police headquarters, sparking speculation about his possible run for the presidency in 2024.
DeSantis, 44, ranted about Democratic cities as he “woke up” as the Republican governor continues to stoke culture war anger.

DeSantis visited Staten Island, a conservative New York City stronghold, to hold meetings with law enforcement officials.
He was joined by Republican Lee Zeldin after Zeldin’s failed run for governor in New York.
“We want streets that law-abiding New Yorkers are responsible for, as opposed to the criminals,” Zeldin opened up for DeSantis.
DeSantis spent much of his time promoting his coordination with law enforcement in the Sunshine State.

“The foundation of Florida’s success was a commitment to law and order and the support of the men and women who wear the uniform,” the Florida governor said.
Targeting New York’s bail bond reform, DeSantis claimed the law change made the streets of New York less safe.
“Here you are in uniform, you have to risk your life, bring them here and then they just let them go.
The Brennan Center for Justice, a nonprofit law and public policy think tank based at New York University, has repeatedly refuted claims that bail reform led to crime waves.
“…In the almost two years since [bail reform] Implementation has not provided any direct evidence linking bail reform to rising crime rates,” the center claims.
The Florida governor also touted his legislative achievements, such as “Don’t Say Gay,” in which he pitted LGBT students against parental rights.
The DeSantis team and NYC Mayor Eric Adams exchanged jabs on social media following the Republican governor’s visit to the Big Apple.
Adams, a former NYPD officer, said, “Welcome to NYC, [DeSantis]a place where we don’t ban books, discriminate against our LGBTQ+ neighbors, use asylum seekers as props, or put government between a woman and healthcare.
“We look forward to teaching you about values while you’re here,” he added.
The DeSantis team fired back minutes later, and its campaign spokeswoman Christina Pushaw said New York had more exits last year than any other metro area.
“Nice rhetoric, but here’s the reality: More Americans fled NYC last year than any other metropolitan area,” Pushaw wrote.
“More Americans have moved to Florida than any other state.
“You know that, Mayor Adams, and you’ve been talking (accurately) about crimes driving people out of NYC,” she said.
Pushaw continued, “Florida’s crime rate is now at a 50-year low.

“Maybe it’s you you can learn from [DeSantis]?”
DeSantis will continue his tour of Democratic cities as he is scheduled to travel to Fort Washington, a suburb of Philadelphia, and Elmhurst, Illinois, near Chicago.
