Inside John Amos’ ‘distressing phone call to his daughter’ which sparked fears of elder abuse and an investigation into the caregiver

THE daughter of actor John Amos claims her father called her in “immense pain” after suffering “elder abuse”. but he reportedly denies being a victim.

Shannon Amos has shared more details about the troubling phone call she received last month from her 83-year-old father, best known for his roles in The Good Times and Roots, among others.

“On May 14, I received a disturbing call: from my father, telling me he was hospitalized in Memphis, Tennessee, in excruciating pain,” she wrote in one Instagram post last week.

“Even though I wasn’t in the country, I made sure he was helped. The intensive care unit revealed his life was hanging by a thread,” she wrote.

Shannon said her father suffered from “elder abuse and financial exploitation” that “shattered” her family’s world.

The allegations are currently under investigation by the Colorado Bureau of Investigation and the Custer County Sheriff’s Office.

She said she plans to work closely with law enforcement “to bring the perpetrators to justice.”

“Legal counsel is essential to ensure her prosecution and to protect my father’s future. His completely devastated home requires a safe place for his return,” she said.

Shannon also revealed in the post that she has started a GoFundMe campaign to donate $500,000 towards her father’s recovery and legal fees.

“Your support means that as we navigate this darkness, the world is united in the belief that justice and healing will prevail,” she wrote.

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation confirmed the investigation and its commitment to understand the incident in a press release viewed by People.

“We take allegations of criminal offenses very seriously. “We can confirm that an allegation that Mr. Amos may be a crime victim has been submitted to the Custer County Sheriff’s Office,” the press release said.

“We are thoroughly investigating this allegation and have consulted with our partners at the Colorado Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Human Services,” the statement said.

Investigators speak to radio station Colorado WIXN also noted that while state legislature does not specifically identify elder abuse as a criminal offense, there are several ways to prosecute abuse of people over the age of 70.

No further details about the “perpetrators” were made public.

John denied the abuse allegations in a conversation with TMZ Shortly after taking over the post, Shannon said he was in the hospital with a swelling that has since gone down.

He reportedly said he was not abused, nor did he fight for his life, and he did not know why his daughter would lie or start a fundraiser on his behalf.
