India vs New Zealand 2021: “The dream is to win tournaments for the country”

Multi-talented person Venkatesh Iyer, who earned her maidenhood India call up for line T20I against New Zealand, has said that his ultimate dream is to win tournaments for the country.

Venkatesh Iyer came to the fore after a stellar debut season for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at IPL 2021. He scored 370 runs in 10 games with an strike rate of 128.47. Iyer was one of the key figures in turning the franchise’s fortunes in the second half of the T20 tournament.

The 26-year-old credited his domestic side Madhya Pradesh for his growth as a cricketer and added that he now wants to achieve bigger things for India. In an interview with, Venkatesh Iyer says:

“I have been playing cricket in the country for a while and the way my team has progressed is a result of what I get. Playing for the country is one thing, but the dream is not just to play there but to make the country win and win tournaments for the country.”

Venkatesh Iyer had previously revealed that it was his Madhya Pradesh teammate, Avesh Khan, who informed him of both being selected for the Indian team.

Talking about Avesh, the left-hander said both are happy for each other. He added:

“Personally, I am happier for him than for myself. I have seen him mature, not only as a cricketer but as a human being. We are neighbors and we both play for the same association and share a good relationship, being roommates for half a decade. I witnessed the struggles he went through. I’m happy for him and I’m sure he’s even happier for me.”

The 24-year-old Avesh Khan has also had an impressive IPL season as he racked up 24 goals in 16 matches for the Delhi Capitals with an strike rate of 15.25.

“I have not set any personal goals yet” – Venkatesh Iyer

Speaking about his goals and expectations for the series against New Zealand, Venkatesh Iyer revealed that he has not set any specific goals but wants to enjoy as much as possible. He signed off:

“I don’t set any personal goals. One thing I expect is India to win and I really hope to enjoy every moment of this series.”
