IND vs SA 2021: Aakash Chopra on Shikhar Dhawan and Ruturaj Gaikwad included in India’s ODI squad
Aakash Chopra expressed joy at Shikhar Dhawanwas included in Team India’s squad for the ODI series against South Africa.
There is speculation that Dhawan could be overlooked, considering his lethargic form for Delhi in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2021-22. The picks, however, put their faith back in the veteran opener and included him in their 18-member squad.
While reflecting on the chosen team in a video shared on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra was particularly delighted with Dhawan’s presence. He say:
“I’ve said many times that Shikhar Dhawan should be there. I’m glad he’s there. If Rohit Sharma, Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan are there, then there will definitely be a fight to see who will play where.”
The former Indian opener also feels that Dhawan should be at the top of the order along with KL Rahul. Aakash Chopra explains:
“Now that he’s in the team, in my opinion he should be the starter. You’ll see Shikhar Dhawan open with Rahul, that’s how I feel. Kohli plays at the age of three, this is cricket ODI not test, let’s remind ourselves.” “

Dhawan has an exceptional record for Team India in over 50. Southpaw has amassed 6105 runs at a superb average of 45.55 in 145 ODIs.
“Ruturaj Gaikwad was absolutely sensational” – Aakash Chopra
Aakash Chopra was also delighted with Ruturaj Gaikwadiincluded in India’s ODI team. He reasoned:
“Ruturaj Gaikwad – that’s another big story, the kind of performance that he put on in the IPL and then in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, he didn’t take the name of stopping. He was absolutely sensational. .”
However, the 44-year-old has doubts about India’s chances of making it into the Chennai Super Kings XI squad. Aakash Chopra explains:
“His name is there a thumbs up. One would expect that his name would come but whether or not he will get a chance to play, I have no clue. It’s a bit difficult, let’s be honest. because KL Rahul, Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli, Iyer, SKY, Pant – there was no place for Ishan Kishan either. Venkatesh Iyer was also there on orders.”
