MANCHESTER UNITED looked like another team under caretaker manager Ralf Rangnick after just one game after a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace.
Sunday victory over the eagles at Old Trafford saw the Red Devils jump to sixth in the Premier League table after consecutive wins.
Despite United winning by just one goal, fans will be thrilled with what they saw at the Theater of Dreams.
In the statistics obtained by Squawka, United have scored 77 passes into the final third of the field – the most they have accumulated this season in the top flight.
And walkie talkie claimed how perfectly United’s high press worked as they won the ball back 12 times in the final third place tie.
Once again, that’s the number United have regained possession of the most this season, with players regularly playing statically under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Before Rangnick’s first game, they had won the ball back in the third quarter overall just 4.1 times.
United’s Rangnick also had 32 touches in the Palace box, more than the 22.9 average they got under Solskjaer.
And United also recovered the ball a total of 65 times compared with the season average of 56.4.
United also had 18 presses against Palace, well above the 12.5 average they have had this campaign.
Portugal international Cristiano Ronaldo has won the ball back impressively three times against the Eagles.
In 11 Premier League games under Solskjaer and Michael Carrick, he has regained possession a total of three times.
United took 61.15% of possession against Palace – a 10% increase on their season average.
They even improved defensively when faced with Patrick Vieira’s men’s eight shots on goal – six fewer than their average.
And they tackled the ball (24) almost 11 times more than Rangnick’s first game.
Speaking after the game, Rangnick said he was amazed at how quickly his players fulfilled his tactical demands.
“I have to admit I was surprised,” he said. I was a bit surprised, because not only did the Thursday, late kick, we had two days less to recover compared to Crystal Palace.
“And we didn’t even have a full workout yesterday because it was 45 minutes, it was pouring.
“It’s not just the weather in Manchester, it’s disgusting, it’s raining, it’s windy so it’s almost impossible to train with concentration and focus.
“But they still do. In those 45 minutes on that field we explained how we wanted to play, how we wanted to play and the rest was video footage, lots of personal conversations with the players, individually, in groups, explain to them how we want to play.
“I didn’t expect them to play at that level in such a short time.”
