ERIK TEN HAG is close to making Tyrell Malacia his first signing as Manchester United manager and he has been liking the defender for some time.

United are reportedly set to hijack Lyon’s move for the Feyenoord star in a £14m deal.

And Ten Hag knows a lot about the left-back from his days as Ajax coach – when he first saw the youngster.

Footage emerged of a game between Feyenoord and Ajax where Malacia certainly caught the eye.

Ten Hag says in Dutch: “That boy at left-back is incredible.”

He also tells his assistant, Michael Reiziger, to take note of Malacia, possibly with a view to a future engagement.

At Ajax, Ten Hag was asked if he wanted to sign the 22-year-old.

He replied: “We think he’s a good player, yes.

“A transfer for Malacia to us is out of the question.

“We can arrange a departure from [Nicolas] Tagliafico in our current selection. If it’s really necessary, we actually have a shadow list. Is Malacia on this list? I will not tell you.”

The Dutchman hasn’t realized his interest in Malacia during his Eredivisie spells, but he’s now ready for a nosedive.

Negotiations between United and Malacia are ongoing and the defender could agree personal terms despite interest from Lyon.
