Phil Foden and Ruben Dias were also on target as City made a perfect start to their twelfth consecutive year in the Champions League.
Haaland has now scored in his Champions League debuts for RB Salzburg, Borussia Dortmund and Man City.
And afterwards he tweeted: “The #UCL is back and I love it!”
Haaland is the first player ever to score 25 goals in his first 20 Champions League games
Guardiola said: “I love this routine and it’s been a routine in every single post-game press conference where there has been talk of him and his goals.
“Hopefully he can continue this routine. The numbers speak for themselves. His whole career was pretty much the same.
“It’s not just the two goals, he’s always there, he’s always there. There’s always a feeling that he could score more goals.
“He has an incredible sense of purpose. We have an unbelievable number of goals and we have to keep going.”

Skipper for the night Kevin de Bruyne scored Haaland’s first goal and believes there is much more to come from his new teammate.
“He said: ‘Right now he’s scoring the goals so we can win the games.
“I think the way he’s adapted to us is really good, but I think outside of scoring goals there’s another part of the game and I think that part is harder to adapt to.
“But it makes it more exciting! If he can adapt to how we play, the levels will go up.”
Guardiola also reserved special praise for Foden, who kickstarted his campaign with a stylish second goal.
He said: “There’s something about Phil that’s incredible – he hasn’t played particularly well lately but he’s always doing a job for the team – he runs and works for the team.
“He’s dynamic and has a good work ethic in every single game – even when he’s playing poorly. That’s why he deserves to play.”
