Inaki Williams’ insane run of 2,468 days without missing a game for Athletic Bilbao comes to an end
INAKI WILLIAMS’ crazy streak of 2,468 days missing a game for Athletic Bilbao has come to an end.
The 28-year-old Ghana international was not involved in Sunday’s 1-0 LaLiga defeat by Celta Vigo after suffering a muscle injury.
And it saw a sad end to his amazing tally of 251 straight games.
Williams’ amazing streak began on April 7, 2016.
He later set a new record for most consecutive games in the Spanish league in October 2021 after 203 consecutive games.
And last April, Williams went a staggering six years without missing a game.
The Spanish-born forward almost met a dramatic end to his run in August when he sustained an ankle injury.
It should break the record after 236 games.
But Williams pulled off a miracle cure after doctors initially feared he might miss several months of action.
Unfortunately for the Bilbao icon, his brilliant run ended today after 251 games.

And fans paid tribute to Williams’ record, which is unlikely to be broken for some time.
One supporter said: “Unreal athlete, sustaining this level of fitness for six years is ridiculous.”
Another explained: “I’m sad, I invested in this record, I’m pretty sure it motivated him to go further.”
One explained: “What a record that is far from being broken.”
Another joked: “Start it up and turn it off after a minute to keep the streak going.”
