CHILLING details have surfaced in the case of Eliza Fletcher, a Memphis millionaire heiress and mother-of-two whose body was discovered last week, four days after her kidnapping.
Suspect Cleotha Abston, 38, was arrested and initially charged with particularly aggravated kidnapping and evidence tampering before being beaten to first-degree murder.
It has been revealed that Abston is now also facing new charges of additional aggravated kidnapping and rape in what appears to be a new case.
A public spokesman for the Memphis Police Department told Fox News the new charges were “unrelated” to Fletcher’s case.
No additional information was available at the time of writing.
Police identified Abston as a suspect after his DNA was found on Fletcher’s sandals, and investigators determined his phone was allegedly pinging in the area where Fletcher was kidnapped at the time of the crime.
Abston, who asked in court to be known by his paternal surname, Henderson, had previously been sentenced to 20 years without parole for robbery and kidnapping attorney Kemper Durand on May 25, 2000, the Memphis Police Department confirmed to The US Sun.
The 34-year-old mother of two was jogging near the University of Memphis around 4:30 a.m. Friday when she was abducted by someone in a dark-colored SUV, police said.
Fletcher was reported missing around 7 a.m. and the university alerted students to the kidnapping. Police have reported that she was last seen wearing a pink jogging top and purple/blue running shorts.
At the time, Fletcher’s family released a heartbreaking statement.
“We are heartbroken and devastated by this senseless loss. Liza was a great joy to so many – her family, friends, colleagues, students, parents, members of her Second Presbyterian Church congregation and everyone who knew her,” the family wrote.
“Now is the time to remember and celebrate how special she was and to support those who cared for her so much.”
