In Lowe’s handy anti-theft system, workers use it to track down thieves stealing from a store

A BEHIND-the-scenes video has shown police officers and store employees working together to track down serial shoplifters.
A police officer was taken behind closed doors to a Florida Lowe’s to view security footage used to track a criminal who stole from the popular improvement store.

Video posted by Real World Police shows the officer walking into the store to meet with Gabriel, a member of Lowe’s security team who had reported that a serial shoplifter was on the prowl.
“Basically, he came into my shop and bought me two large tools, about $1,200,” Gabriel told the officer.
The police officer was taken to a small room where the security team is reviewing live video from across the store.
Providing more context, Gabriel explained that the shoplifter walked around the store for a few minutes before grabbing two large tools and placing them in his car.

“He had someone waiting for him, so he got on the passenger side and they drove off,” he said.
The outcome of the cooperation between the police officer and the worker was unclear, but viewers had a lot to say about the strategy in the YouTube comments.
“I wish they would use these cameras to get the Lowe’s staff at Somerset Lowe’s to do some work and stop talking to each other and help me when I need it,” complained one customer.
One person felt that old-school security cameras didn’t get a fair rating.
“Don’t be fooled by what someone calls a low-tech system. You would be surprised what this system can do!” they wrote.
Retail theft has become a $94.5 billion problem, according to an insider report.
Insider recently took a look at the new security systems at Lowe’s, from cages that lock valuable items in, to alarm systems tagged with smaller products.
Lowe’s isn’t the only retailer taking action against theft after major financial losses.
The store has followed in the footsteps of many others, including Target, Walmart, and Dollar General.
