In Britain’s ‘grimest’ suburb, where the streets are piled high with rubbish, broken furniture and rotting MEAT

LOCALS living in one of “Britain’s fiercest suburbs” have described hellish conditions with rats feasting on spoiled meat, front yards full of rubbish and thugs beating passers-by in the street.

Residents of Tolladine, Worcester have also claimed that the elderly and vulnerable are too afraid to leave their homes due to crime and anti-social behavior as people are beaten up in the streets for no reason.

A local resident said the decomposing flesh and bones on the sidewalks have created a “rat paradise” where vermin feed on trash dumped on the street.

On Avon Road, a garden was littered with dirty mattresses, broken fridges, an old toilet, and smashed bed frames.

The trash covered every inch of grass and spilled onto the sidewalk, forcing residents to step onto the street to avoid it.

Edward Kimberley, who ran as the Borough Labor candidate in May 2022, said: “Avon and Teme Roads were council estates built with small family-sized houses designed to accommodate a set number of people.

“Now these are being turned into HMOs, many more people are being corralled and public services (like rubbish collection and on-street parking) have not kept up.

“Many tenants in this area are effectively barred from any help from the council because they do not speak fluent English, leaving them dependent on their landlords for everything.

“We need to reach them much better and let them know help is available.

“This part of Tolladine is generally in a state of disrepair and neglect of all kinds.

“Trash on the street, discarded offal and fly butts are normal here.”

A local said: “This place should be condemned. It’s an absolute shame. The only thing that thrives is the vermin. It’s a rat paradise.

“People have given up all hope and respect for the area. I know older people who are too scared and depressed to leave their homes.”

Another said: “It’s awful walking around here and some of the people throwing stuff are really menacing.

“It’s not just people throwing trash, criminals are starting to use the area to fly stuff. The area turns into a giant garbage dump.

“You see gangs of kids spitting and smashing windows in empty buildings. People have been beaten up in the street for no reason, it’s cruel.”

Mohammed Altaf, a conservative local councilor, owns several properties in the area.

He said sometimes tenants would move out, leaving behind garbage, including furniture.

He said: “When I have money to spend, I spend money from my own pocket.

“It was me who brought back the Saturday Skips because they had been taken away.”

Cllr Altaf suggested that more should be done to facilitate access to council services for the area’s multicultural population.

He said: “It needs to be explained that the green bin is for recycling and the black bin is not.”

A Worcester City Council spokesman said: “We would like to thank the resident who brought the sofa and other rubbish to our attention on Avon Road.

“We are taking precautions for removal.

“We would encourage residents to report any fly dumpers found in the city to us at www.worcester.gov.uk/report-it.

“We will also investigate the Teme Road site.”
