On October 1, the avid runner took part in one of her many 5K races with her sister.

However, the standard race took a wild turn when she felt something hit her in the head.

“I thought I got hit by another runner who was just too close,” Heasley told FOX 8.

“I saw blood on my hands and realized it was a little worse.”

It turned out that a deer hit Heasley with its hoof, causing a massive wound in her face and throwing her clean to the ground.

Despite the surprise punch, the runner said she managed to keep her composure in the moments after the attack.

“Honestly, I stayed calm throughout the whole thing,” she said.

“I had a freaking moment when I realized my ear wasn’t where it was supposed to be, but other than that it was more or less like I was freaking out, this was going to be a lot worse than it really is.”

Paramedics were called to help Heasley, but she was too far away to get help.

Instead, the brave runner got up and walked to the finish line to meet EMS.

“They said it would be a little while before I got the stretcher back and if I could walk,” she said.

“So I actually went out ahead, so I finished.”

The brutal attack required surgery to reconstruct Heasley’s ear and reattach it to her head.

But despite the many stitches and the massive wound, she is on the mend and has even managed to get back to work.

Her sister actually set up a GoFundMe that raised over $1,000 to help with medical expenses and bills.

“The kindness of strangers is nice,” she said.

“My sister set it up because it was a way for her to advocate for me since she’s not able to help as much as she would like.”

While the deer’s shattering attack did leave a mark, Heasley vowed not to let fear hold her back and keep running at her sister’s side.

“I won’t let that stop me from going back there because it can happen anywhere at this point,” she said.

“It’s nature, it happens. You can’t be afraid of it.”
