In a $2 billion war chest for Zelensky from Biden with “Patriot” missiles, laser-guided bombs and anti-drone weapons

UKRAINE is getting a massive $2 billion war chest from Joe Biden – including one of the most advanced US air defense systems.

It comes as US President welcomed Volodymyr Zelenskyy to the White House on his first known foreign trip since Russia invaded Ukraine 300 days ago.

The US has provided $19.3 billion in military aid to Kyiv so far during the war.

But Biden has now unveiled nearly $2 billion in further aid.

The stunning war chest being shipped to Ukraine includes the Patriot air defense system.

Considered one of the most advanced air defense systems in Biden’s arsenal, it provides protection from aircraft, cruise missiles and ballistic missiles.

The Patriot usually includes launchers along with radar and other support vehicles.

It’s usually in short supply as allies around the world vie for it.

Biden’s package includes a $1 billion commitment to provide Ukraine with “enhanced air defense and precision strike capabilities” and $850 million in security assistance, according to Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

Russia said last week that US plans to supply Patriot missile defense systems to Ukraine are a “provocation” and a further expansion of US military involvement in the Ukraine conflict.

The Kremlin had said that US Patriot missile defense systems, if delivered, would be a legitimate target for Russian attacks on Ukraine.

Blinken said Wednesday, “Today’s support includes for the first time the Patriot air defense system capable of downing cruise missiles, short-range ballistic missiles and aircraft at a significantly higher ceiling than previously deployed air defense systems.”

The aid package also includes ammunition for highly mobile artillery rocket systems (HIMARS), precision guided artillery shells and precision aircraft ammunition.

Trucks, guns and AGM-88 HARM missiles and mortar shells are also being sent.

It comes as Zelensky landed in Washington DC today as he and Biden attempted to show a united front against the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Biden and First Lady Jill Biden greeted Zelensky, who was dressed in casual green army fatigues, as he exited his vehicle.

He shook hands with Biden before they walked in for their meeting in the Oval Office, followed by a press conference.

Later, Zelensky will address Congress.

Zelenskyy posted on Instagram after landing: “I’m in Washington today to thank the American people, the President and Congress for their much-needed support.

“And also to continue working together to bring our victory closer.”

He said the visit will “enhance Ukraine’s resilience and defense capabilities.
