Broward County investigators alleged that Koehler raped a woman with a knife after he broke into her Pompano Beach, Fla., home in June 1984, the Associated Press reports.

Police used DNA technology to identify the suspect and the case resulted in a total of six charges.

One of Koehler’s alleged victims branded him a “terrible, evil, dangerous predator,” reports WPLG.

Koehler was arrested by police in 2020 on charges of sexually assaulting a woman in Miami-Dade in 1983. Since then he has been behind bars and is currently awaiting trial.

Investigators revealed DNA matches linked him to at least 25 attacks.

Police said the Pillowcase Rapist was known to cover his face with objects such as towels or shirts to hide his identity.

Broward County Sheriff’s Office cold case investigator Kami Floyd investigated the Pompano Beach case to determine if it was related to the attacker’s tactics.

Floyd said: “It was an assumption based specifically on this case that he used a pillowcase to cover his face and at no point did he [the victim] could identify him because she didn’t know what he looked like.”

Among his alleged victims were a teacher, a nurse, a flight attendant, an artist, a model, a publicist and a student.

All but one woman lived in apartments or townhouses.

Authorities claim the attacker broke into his victims’ homes by slipping through unlocked sliding doors and open windows before threatening them with a knife and attacking them.

The pillowcase rapist eluded detectives for years despite a widespread manhunt.

A sculpture was sculpted from a victim’s description of the attacker’s face as part of the investigation, the Miami Herald revealed.

WIDESPREAD HUNT

His shoe size and blood type were the only two specific details police had at the time of the initial investigation.

Cops interviewed potential suspects and followed up hundreds of leads while trying to identify the attacker.

In March 1986, a task force was formed to hunt down the rapist, but it was disbanded a year later after police failed to locate a suspect.

Floyd revealed officers were going through 500 boxes of evidence linking the cases to Koehler.

She revealed: “When I found my first case, it made me really sad to have to reach out to that sacrifice and have her relive what happened so many years ago.

“It was heartbreaking in many cases because some women hadn’t even told their families what happened to them.”

Floyd revealed the victims’ stories were similar.

She said: “They were attacked at night and the attacker appeared to be aware of their habits, including in some cases the division of their home.”
