A REWARD of up to $40,000 has been offered for information about the kidnapping and murder of a 10-year-old girl.
Lindsey Baum went missing in Washington state in 2009 – years before her remains were found in the woods, hours from when she was last seen.
Investigators believe she was abducted in her hometown of McCleary while walking home from her friend’s house, just a few blocks away.
In 2017, hunters found a piece of Lindsey’s skull in a densely wooded area nearly three hours from McCleary, but the rest of her remains have yet to be found, according to KCPQ-TV.
According to KOMO-TV, a reward of up to $40,000 has now been offered for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.
“I want to know where the rest of my daughter is, number one priority,” Lindsey’s mother, Melissa Baum, told KOMO-TV.
“All I got back from her was a piece of her skull, and this is it. This is my daughter.” Melissa wears her daughter’s ashes in a pendant necklace.
Investigators have identified several people of interest, including Paul James Bieker, who was recently convicted of raping a teenager in the same city, six years before Lindsey went missing, according to Crime Online.
“Due to the nature and circumstances of the crime, investigators are also investigating the kidnapping and murder of Lindsey Baum, who went missing in the city of McCleary on June 26, 2009,” investigators said.
Police said it’s rare that there are uncanny resemblances in both cases in the same tiny town.
“How many people with that mindset live in these communities?” Investigator Darrin Wallace told KOMO-TV. “I wouldn’t think so, not very many. So he’s definitely an interesting person.”
Melissa can’t stand looking at old photos of her daughter.
“I rarely stop and look at them directly because it’s still difficult,” Baum said, crying, to KOMO-TV. “It’s her face that gets me.”
The Grays Harbor County Sheriff’s Office has four investigators on the case and assistance from the FBI, the Attorney General and the Kittitas County Sheriff.
“It’s definitely a monster. We don’t know what happened to her, but we do know that she passed away,” Wallace said.
“Anyone who would do that to a 10-year-old girl is beyond what you and I can understand. It is not normal.”
Though this case seems cold, Wallace has hope. “I think it’s totally solvable.
“My gut feeling, it’s just someone who knows something. And someone comfortable enough to say, ‘That’s what I know,'” Wallace said.
Melissa won’t stop until she gets justice for her daughter. “My daughter deserves to rest in peace”
“She was a beautiful, bright 10-year-old little girl. She was a 10 year old little girl. There was no reason for anyone to take them other than sick, disgusting things,” Melissa told KMOM-TV.
“If I don’t, who will get justice for Lindsey? Who makes sure that their ten years on this earth are worth something? I’m literally the only one who has it.”
