A WOMAN accused of faking her pregnancy before cutting out her friend’s baby and claiming the child was her own has been taken to court.
Taylor Rene Parker, 29, has pleaded not guilty to the October 2020 deaths of Simmons-Hancock, 21, and her late daughter of capital murder and kidnapping.
Authorities say the heavily pregnant Simmons-Hancock was stabbed and cut more than 100 times during the brutal attack.
Her skull was crushed with a hammer at her home in New Boston, Texas before a scalpel was used to remove her unborn baby.
The victim’s three-year-old daughter left her with her dying mother, authorities said, and Parker then drove with the baby on her lap.
A State Trooper stopped the car and took the child to a hospital in nearby Idabel, Oklahoma. The child later died.
Parker is also charged with non-capital murder in connection with the baby’s death.
A court heard this week that she had done extensive research on how to convincingly fake a pregnancy.
Special Agent Dustin Estes of the Texas Department of Public Safety testified that Parker watched numerous YouTube videos about the birth and care of babies.
On the day of the murder, she watched a video of the physical exam of a 35-week-old baby, he said.
Simmons-Hancock was 35 weeks pregnant when she was killed.
Parker also did numerous pregnancy-related Google searches, Estes said.
“She watched all these videos, clicked all these links, and they were all 35 weeks old,” said prosecutor Kelley Crisp.
“I think Taylor Parker faked her pregnancy. … She planned and carried out the assassination of Reagan,” Estes said.
Parker’s attorney, Jeff Harrelson, challenged that opinion, telling Estes, “You can see someone looked them up, but you don’t know why. You may have a theory.”
In her opening statement Monday, Crisp told the Bowie County jury that Parker didn’t act because she wanted a baby, but to avoid losing her boyfriend.
Crisp said Parker dressed up to make her look pregnant, faked ultrasounds and threw a gender reveal party for nearly 10 months.
She also posted about her fake pregnancy on social media while searching for a possible victim, Crisp said, adding, “She’s an actress, an actress of the highest order.”
Parker could face the death penalty or life in prison without parole if convicted of capital murder.
