‘I’m upset’ – Raging Xavi slams ‘injustice’ and the referee after Barcelona denied penalty against Inter Milan

XAVI shouted “this is an injustice” after Barcelona’s 1-0 defeat by Inter Milan last night.

The LaLiga leaders fell to third in their Champions League group after their narrow defeat at the San Siro.

Hakan Calhanoglu’s low shot into the bottom corner just before half-time was enough to secure all three points for Simone Inzaghi’s side.

Xavi, 42, was left furious late on by two crucial VAR decisions.

First, a Pedri equalizer following an accidental handball by Ansu Fati was ruled out beforehand – Barca argued that goalkeeper Andre Onana put the ball on the winger from such close range – and their manager was cautioned over his protests.

Then, even more controversially, Inter full-back Denzel Dumfries seemed to get away with a clear handling in the penalty area in the closing stages.

After his side’s defeat, trailing by three points after three Group C games, Xavi fumed: “I’m mad at the situation we’ve had to endure.

“It’s an injustice, I said yesterday that the referees have to speak because I don’t understand anything.

“He didn’t want to give me any explanations at the end of the game.”

After taking the criticism of Slovenia’s whistler Slavko Vincic off his chest, Xavi added: “We have three finals to play now.

“We are in an uncomfortable position. They have six points, we have three and Bayern have nine.

“We had our chances but we couldn’t convert them and they scored from long range – we knew that was one of their strengths.”

Barcelona host Inter in Catalonia in a crunch rematch next week – before hosting Bayern Munich on October 26.

They will then round off their Group C season with a trip to Viktoria Pilsen a week later, hoping to still be in the qualifying mix.

Meanwhile, they remain unbeaten in LaLiga with six wins and one draw from their first seven games.

They meet rivals Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu on October 16, with Carlo Ancelotti’s men also making an unbeaten start.
