A DAD was left stunned after his 11-year-old daughter was assigned to a full-day detention facility by her school, who said her outfit violated the dress code.

Shiloh, a fifth-grader from the school, came to class in black leggings and a hoodie that came “almost freakishly knee-length”, her father announced.

Upon arriving at the school, she said she was immediately stopped by principal Michael Weaver, who told her she had to spend the day on an in-school suspension (ISS) because she had broken a website policy. school uniform.

Shiloh said she was just one of a number of students, all female, who were stopped by the principal and given to the ISS for a dress code violation.

She said she felt embarrassed and sad, saying being in the ISS was “scary” and made her “very nervous”.

Shiloh said to Sun Herald: “My hands don’t stop shaking. And I don’t know what to do.”

Father Clint sent an angry email to the principal claiming that his daughter had been treated unfairly and attaching a photo of her in the clothes she was wearing caused the suspension.

“We’re here in 2022 and girls have to worry about wearing outfits that don’t even fit,” he wrote.

“Children, especially girls my daughter’s age, are going through a lot of changes. The last thing they need is someone to embarrass them in the hallway for wearing something completely appropriate. “

According to the Harrison County elementary school dress code, only leggings with the top “longer than your fingertips” may be worn.

The photo of Shiloh in the sweater appears to show it extending beyond her fingertips but she says her backpack makes it a bit taller than the officially approved length.

After testing the tips of his fingers, Shiloh claims Weaver “told me to pull up my hoodie so he could see my shirt,” to see if it was long enough.

Weaver is said to have denied asking Shiloh to lift her coat in an email reply to her father Clint and declined to comment when approached by the Sun Herald.

The district’s dress code policy requires that if a student is found to be inappropriately dressed, parents must be notified and asked to bring a change of clothes.
