Kilmer explained to viewers that U.S. law states that people can choose the auto body shop they want to take their car to after an accident, and they don’t have to go where the tow truck driver recommends.

The 54-year-old mechanic warned drivers that they should find a good repair shop they can trust.

Kilmer claimed, “You have to understand that when the tow truck people come, they generally get high kickbacks.”

“If they get a nice big wreck and tow it to the body shop they’re associated with, they’ll get five hundred thousand, maybe even more money for taking the vehicle to that body shop.

“So if you want to have one ready that you can trust to say no, drag him here.”

He added that drivers should keep a piece of paper with the name of an auto body shop in their glove compartment and on their phone.

Kilmer also added that drivers can request a city truck to bring their vehicle to their home while they find a reliable body shop.

He gave tips on how car owners can find a reliable parking space.

Look for a paint booth in the store

Paint booths are huge areas that are sealed to prevent dust and dirt from coming into contact with a car.

Kilmer said, “It’s very important to do the body work right.”

“There have to be professional people working there who know how to mix paint and match it to the color of your car.”

He advised people to visit an auto body shop and ask for an example of a car that had a part painted.

This would show whether the colors of the old and new paint match.

Check the store’s surroundings

Kilmer advised people to revisit places where there are lots of cars lined up outside in a few weeks.

He told viewers that deals involving the same cars in a few weeks should be avoided.

Kilmer said: “I worked for a guy like this years ago, he had all these junk cars and it would have upset people to come in and he didn’t fix any of those cars.

“You can see that all the stickers are outdated and some of them do not have license plates on them.

“Don’t go to a place like this because chances are your car will take forever to repair and may not even do a good job.”

Please investigate

Kilmer urged viewers to find a location where a lot of deals were made and do additional research.

He said: “I had a man who was a great coachbuilder, but as he got older he let his son take over the shop and he wasn’t really interested in doing bodywork on cars.”

Kilmer added that online reviews and complaints should also be checked.
