I’m an ex-Tottenham ace. I don’t understand why Spurs bother to qualify for the Champions League when they play like that

Former Tottenham striker Peter Crouch has slammed the club after his Champions League knockout.

The north London side suffered a goalless draw at Tottenham Hotspur which saw them eliminated from the competition by AC Milan.

And the shallow nature of the performance has seen fans and pundits alike tearing at manager Antonio Conte and his flops.

Former Spurs ace Crouch has echoed that sentiment, questioning whether there’s even a point if they even qualify.

He told BT Sport: “What’s the point of the top 4 when you perform like that in the Champions League? The fans want to see a trophy.

“To rest the players for that FA Cup game it was for the league and then they lose the league game.”

Club talisman Harry Kane nearly saved Spurs with a late header but saw his attempt saved by Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan.

Interest in the England skipper is high and SunSport reveal Manchester United have been in touch with him.

There’s also a belief that should Spurs fail to qualify for the Champions League next season, Kane will be pushing for a move, something Crouch wouldn’t blame him for.

He added: “How many transition periods does Harry Kane have to wait for?

“It’s a short career, I don’t think Harry Kane would blame him if he didn’t move. AC Milan were comfortable tonight.”

It comes just a week after the Sheffield United club were knocked out of the FA Cup before their four best hopes are dented with a 1-0 defeat by Wolves.

Boss Conte also appears to have resigned, suggesting the club could sack him.

Spurs star Richarlison has also blasted the club’s season as an ‘S***’.
