‘I’m an animal lover… but it’s my duty to win’ – West Ham’s Moyes explains his decision to play Zouma after the embarrassment of being kicked by a cat

DAVID MOYES has defended his decision to include cat kicker Kurt Zouma in West Ham’s starting line-up despite being an ‘animal lover’ himself.

But Moyes in his post-match press conference insisted it was his duty to make decisions on the pitch, in a lengthy reply to The uproar surrounding the decision to include Zouma in his team.

“We want to settle this game and we understand that nobody will be happy about it. It’s a terrible situation.”

Moyes hinted that Zouma deeply regrets his actions and is ‘disappointed’ by the events that happened.

“My feeling is that Kurt apologized and I understand a lot of people won’t just accept an apology,” he said.

“But for me, he came out and said it honestly and I had to do my job. It was to pick the best team. He was really frustrated. We all felt that. It’s through the team and the club.”

The boss went on to reveal Zouma’s actions came as a surprise to the entire West Ham team, who did not expect such despicable behavior from the 27-year-old.

Moyes continued: “We all had the same feeling that it was something we didn’t expect from Kurt. We didn’t see that in his character or from him in anything we did. meet him.

“I always felt I had to separate them and let the club do their part and I do my part, which is the team.”

And finally Moyes insists that being a ‘disciplined’ manager means he will always take action if necessary to correct players, despite not feeling the need to do so with Zouma.
