I’m an American tourist in the UK – I’m disgusted with the “iconic” British landmark…it has no toilets and stinks of urine

Disgusted tourists have claimed this British landmark is “a real tragedy” and warned others not to go there.

Mount Snowdon, or Yr Wyddfa in Wales, attracts around half a million visitors each year – but some climbers have been less than impressed.

Angry tourists used TripAdvisor to share their horror stories, with one of the main issues being the lack of toilets.

An American visitor, who traveled all the way from New York, said: “There are no toilets for all those who go up and walk back.

“People seem to be relieving themselves outdoors, spreading a whiff of the smell of urine all over this hill.”

Others made the same complaint and someone else wrote: “Every rock you walk behind smells like urine or has human excrement behind it.

“Went upstairs behind a building and found a poor woman doing a dump.

“Lots of visitors here, so it’s building up to be a real sewage festival.”

And this disappointed tourist wasn’t the only one who claimed to have caught other explorers using the landscape as a toilet.

“No toilets so everyone seems to be using the bushes. Not sanitary,” agreed a third.

“A lot of rubbish is piled up and blown across the country.

“A real tragedy.”

Another horrified climber commented: “At the top we were greeted by the smell of sewage and literally hundreds of people milling around.

“Since my last visit, they had built a visitor center. It was gross.

“The toilets were a disgrace. They reminded me of facilities in third world countries but probably worse as the smell was overpowering.”

Another climber believed the mountain should be renamed, saying: “Poo-down should be the name. I can’t believe how many people squatted and had a poo on the way up.

“Most deterrent, can’t they walk before they climb?”

However, not everyone caught a foul smell and many praised the attraction.

“What an amazing place to visit. Stunning views at the end of a strenuous walk but definitely worth it,” wrote one impressed visitor.

“A hike up Snowdon was the highlight of our Wales holiday,” agreed a second.

Another satisfied tourist said: “Absolutely stunning. We recommend.”
