I’m an 80-year-old bodybuilder – people are shocked at my unrecognizable looks decades after I won Mr. Olympia

Zane shared that he has changed his training as he adjusts to his older age.
“As I got older, I made walking a priority,” he said in an interview with Men’s Health.
He has also made a conscious switch away from free weights and towards machine-guided exercises.
“Walking on the treadmill has always been part of my contest prep, but as I’ve gotten older it’s become essential.”

He said machines increase stability and allow lifters to target more specific areas of the body.
Zane started weightlifting at age 14 growing up in northeastern Pennsylvania.
From 1977 to 1979 he won the Mr. Olympia competition three times.
At 5’9″ and 200 pounds, Zane is still considered one of the most aesthetically gifted bodybuilders of all time.
He is one of three people in professional bodybuilding history to defeat Arnold Schwarzenegger.
He has since been inducted into the Bodybuilding Hall of Fame.
In his prime, Zane praised free weights and said heavy lifting helped build his body mass.
“After every set I would collapse on the floor and lie there wondering if I could do another set,” he said of his early career workouts on his blog.
His Instagram is designed to engage the masses, including fellow octogenarians.
“The way you see yourself in the mirror is a product of your belief system. You see what you expect to see,” he said on his Instagram.
