‘I’m almost certain’ – Transfer insider Dean Jones believes Frank Lampard could sign the Chelsea star for Everton if he becomes manager

Transfer insider Dean Jones believes Frank Lampard can bring Chelsea quarterback Billy Gilmour to Goodison Park if he becomes Everton manager.

Lampard is said to be close to signing for the Toffees, who sacked Rafael Benitez earlier this month. Duncan Ferguson is currently acting as interim manager of the club. He oversaw a 0-1 defeat to Aston Villa ahead of the ongoing international break.

Frank Lampard will sign as new Everton manager today, following an oral agreement since Friday. 🔵🤝 #EFCHe is working for newcomers – trying to win the race for the Crystal Palace title to Donny van de Beek on loan from Manchester United.

With just a few hours left in the transfer window, Everton are unlikely to bring in any new players this month. However, Jones believes Gilmour, who is currently on loan at Norwich City, could be signed by the Toffees in the summer. He told GiveMeSport (via Goodison News):

“If Frank Lampard ends up at Everton, then Billy Gilmour will become an Everton player next season. I’m almost certain of that.”

Everton currently have the likes of Allan, Abdoulaye Doucoure and Andre Gomes in midfield. However, Doucoure is injured, while Gomes and Allan only play a little. Players like Jean-Philippe Gbamin and Fabian Delph have both suffered injuries since joining the club.

Gilmour, who excels at holding the ball and starting in midfield, could prove to be a smart long-term signing for the Toffees.

Billy Gilmour excelled at Chelsea under Frank Lampard

Following promotion to the famous Cobham academy, Gilmour made his first-team debut under Frank Lampard in the 2019-20 season. He played the last six minutes of the Premier League match against Sheffield United, which ended in a 2-2 draw.

Overall, Gilmour made nine appearances across all competitions for Chelsea during that campaign. His performance from midfield in the Blues’ 2-0 win over Liverpool in the FA Cup fifth round, in particular, earned him plenty of praise.

The 20-year-old has also made 11 appearances in all competitions in the 2020-21 season, suffering a knee injury. He even made his UEFA Champions League debut during the campaign. However, the departure of Lampard and the subsequent arrival of Thomas Tuchel reduced Gilmour’s playing time significantly.

Gilmour was then loaned out to Norwich City at the start of the ongoing season. He made 12 Premier League appearances for the Canaries, scoring one assist. However, the deep midfielder has struggled to impact games as he did at Chelsea. He has also missed Norwich’s last three games because of a knee injury. ‘I’m almost certain’ – Transfer insider Dean Jones believes Frank Lampard could sign the Chelsea star for Everton if he becomes manager
