EVEN stores known for their low prices can’t escape inflation, and some items are no longer worthwhile after rising by as much as 70 cents in a week.

Common housewares and pantry staples are becoming unaffordable for Americans, even at stores known for having the best deals.

To help people stay afloat, the Adventures With Danno YouTube channel shares price hikes it finds at various grocery stores.

During a recent trip to Walmart, Dan shared some products that had gone up as much as 30 cents in a single week.

Across all sections of the store, Dan noticed price increases on common purchases like bread, canned goods, and fruits and vegetables.

He shared the prices at Walmart and compared them to other stores like Kroger, where some of the items were much more expensive.

Dan started out in the produce section looking at watermelons.

While he was impressed by the wide range on offer, the price was a major disappointment.

The melons cost $4.48 at Walmart but only $3.99 at Kroger.

Grapes have been steadily increasing in price by about 10 cents a week, he said.

Originally the green grapes cost $2.08, now they cost $2.48. However, he said he could buy both red and green grapes from Kroger for $1.98 a pound.

Bagged iceberg lettuce originally cost 98 cents and went up in price to $1.18. After another increase, each bag is now $1.38.

Pantry staples

Bread and preserves have skyrocketed in price in recent months.

A loaf of bread went for $2.28 and went up to $2.50, which doesn’t seem like much, but Dan said it’s also harder to find. At Kroger, the price rose even further to $2.69.

Dan noted that Thomas’s bagels had remained the same price at $3.68 at Walmart, but had gone up to $4.19 at Kroger.

Smucker’s Uncrustables were $8.78 for a 10-pack and had gone up to $9.48.

The price of Ben’s Ready Rice differed drastically from Walmart to Kroger, where it was $2.12 and $2.49, respectively.

Canned foods like Chef Boyardee have skyrocketed in price. The canned ravioli cost $1.17 and is now $1.24 at Walmart and even more at Kroger for $1.50.
