I’m a tech expert – your Wi-Fi isn’t really turned off and still ‘tracks your location’ unless you follow secret steps

A TECH expert found that turning off your WiFi on your Android phone doesn’t always turn it off completely.

TikToker @tatechtips showed his followers how to turn WiFi off completely.

Disabling this feature can have additional benefits for your phone, but it can also negatively impact some apps that require your location

This can result in battery drain and additional privacy benefits.

The TikToker said in its video, “Turning off your WiFi doesn’t necessarily mean you’ve turned off your WiFi.”

It refers to Android users simply clicking the Wi-Fi button to turn it off.

This isn’t necessarily enough to prevent your phone from scanning for WiFi signals.

The Expert instructs Android users to go to their Settings and then click Location.

Then tap Location Services.

Here you will see a section called Wi-Fi Scanning and an explanation of what that is.

The TikToker says, “It says apps are allowed to use WiFi for location detection even when WiFi is off.”

Most read in “Phones and Gadgets”.

“That means if you turned off your WiFi but turned on scanning, your phone would keep sending WiFi scans all the time.”

“So if you want an extra level of privacy, turn off your WiFi scanning too.”

You can easily turn off Wi-Fi scanning.

Just swipe the switch next to the Wi-Fi scanning explanation.

You can do the same with Bluetooth scanning as well.

If you find that turning off the feature negatively impacts your apps, follow the same steps to turn it back on.
